Choosing My Battles...

I really enjoy blogging, I kind of feel like this is my disclosed journal!
I have some thoughts on my mind that I want to liberate.
If nothing else- just to write it down so that I can come back
when I need to make since of things.
To anyone that may be reading this, my apologies in advance-
I feel better when I write it down.

Define Brain Damage:
Injury to the brain that is caused by various conditions,
such as inadequate oxygen supply, and that may be associated
with a behavioral or functional abnormality.

Brain cells are extremely sensitive to oxygen deprivation.
Some brain cells actually start dying less than 5 minutes
after their oxygen supply disappears.
As a result, brain hypoxia (inadequate oxygenation of the blood)
can rapidly cause death or severe brain damage.
As a general rule, permanent damage
is likely if the brain is more than 3-4 minutes without oxygen.
10 minutes is almost certain to cause lasting damage
and in the majority of cases would result in death.

My mom did not die- not technically.
She is alive; her heart beats, she eats, sleeps, walks,
talks & cries just like the rest of us.
She is innocent or should I say childlike, she is fragile,
but she is adorable and she is my mom.
I love her so much. I couldn't imagine not having her around me.

Define My Sorrow:
Understanding her tactics.
Listening to her wishes.
This will happen again.

I worry, I cry,
I have flash backs of my sisters voice on the line from that night.
I remember that awful 30 minute drive that felt like hours had gone by.
When I try to remember the look on my children's faces as I panicked...

My mom spends every other week with me,
this week she & I got very upset with each other.
Twice I went down to her room to make things better and twice
it got worse. My mom feels like I don’t know her, she says none of us
know her- Maybe she’s right, she’s not the same person anymore.
This person that stays with me does not hug me & say its ok daughter,
kids will be kids. There is no motherly advice given.
There are no answers given when I’m in the kitchen cooking
and have forgotten a recipe.
There are insignificant amounts of feelings for my siblings & me.

Does any of this really matter? No, not at all. This is my mom.

In our argument I had to take a step back and not talk,
not argue or even cry I just sat quietly and watched as she cried;
she had forgotten I was even there.
I learned a lot from her expressions, from her actions. She is very right!
I vow here and now... no matter who, what or where
my mom will never ever have her feelings hurt by me.
I Love You Mom.

Define Lesson Learned:
Let's just allow ourselves to be whatever it is we are
Beginnings are usually scary. Endings are usually sad,
but it's what's in the middle that counts.

Beautiful Boy

Wednesday April 7th 2010 is our new Happy Due Date!
Candis & Chris checked into the Jordan Valley Hospital this morning
to have a baby. I went for a quick visit on my lunch hour
so that I could see my niece and give her hugs & kisses.
I snuck a picture with my phone while she was still "content"

See the cute little smile...

I was very impressed with her tactics-
There is nothing simple or polite about contractions
They hurt…and they hurt badly. B.A.D.
Candis just closed her eyes and breathed right through them
Well.....the first few hours of them!

So Pretty

At 5:00 pm I headed back to the hospital.
Candis was doing great- I am so proud of her.
Chris (father), Jolene (the father’s mother)
my sister (1st time grandma) and Michael (1st time grandpa)
were waiting patiently to meet the
newest addition to the Fertig/MacKay family.

Introducing…Parker Chase Mackay
Born on 4/7/2010 at 9:07 pm
8 pounds 4.1 ounces 20 ½ inches long

He is PERFECT. He is BEAUTIFUL.
He is MY Grand Nephew!!!
He has blond hair and the cutest dimple!
Great job Chris & Candis.
I love you both so much, thank you for letting me share
such an amazing evening with you.

Happy Due Date

Today, Wednesday March 31, 2010 my great nephew is due to arrive.
This morning I called my sister and said- Happy Due Date Grandma!
She giggled. Sherry doesnt really "look like a grandma"
but she LOVES the idea of being one!
She is going to be a fantastic Grandma.

It's cold & snowing!!! Stay In Baby!!!

Parker will be Chris & Candis's 1st baby!
What are the chances she delivers on her due date with her 1st baby?
I did. Braxton was due on November 18th 1994.
He was born on 11/18/94 at 8:37 am
My sis and I have been discussing…well…
I think a few of us have made guesses as to when
that little bundle of joy will arrive.
You lost Michael!
My guess is.....
Friday April 2nd, preferable after 5pm
Well it would be a much nicer day!
I am sure Candis Michelle wouldn’t mind..
I think she likes keeping Parker all to herself.
She does make a very cute pregnant niece!
Friday means payday…I can buy more presents for him.
AND eat in the cafeteria at the Hospital! Good Food!!
Friday means I would have the whole weekend to
visit the hospital and hold my grandnephew.
Yes "Grandnephew" I looked it up...
great-neph-ew
A son of one's nephew or niece; grandnephew.
I prefer "Aunty" that's it! Just Aunty.

Dear Parker- There are MANY who are waiting to meet you,
hold you, even sing to you--> (Aunty Tammy & Aunty Brook)
Cant wait!!! We already love you.
See you soon little one.

PS.
This little tiny baby
Was sent from God above
To fill our hearts with happiness
And touch our lives with love
He must have known
We'd give our all
And always do our best
To give our precious baby love
And be grateful and so blessed

Rest In Peace My Friend

To my Best Friend, my second mom,
To all my family in Salt Lake City & Idaho…
It has been 18 years that I have laughed & loved the most of you.
My heart just aches for the depth of your pain.
It is absolutely tragic for what you have all had to endure.
Stephanie was beautiful, funny, and compassionate.
She will be missed very much.

I have known Stephanie since she was 12 years old.
Size 0 wranglers and long blonde hair. What a doll!
She had a dog named Shania, after Twain I believe!!
I remember when she gave birth to her first son- Dustin.
What a Beautiful little boy. Steph was such a good mommy.
All she ever wanted was to be like her big sis
and live in the forest as Snow White-Serious!!
When she married Rob (the love of her life) she had an outside
wedding at Grandma Glenna’s –
everything was pink and it was beautiful.
Especially her…I did her hair!
I really enjoyed spending that time with her.
She was so happy and so grateful and I was honored to do it.
When Justin & I were married, Steph, Rob (her husband)
& Anna (second mom) drove to Salt Lake just to attend my wedding.
I hope they understand how much that meant to me.
Anna has always been so wonderful to me.
I wish there was something…anything I could do for
her pain and emptiness that she is suffering.
18 years worth of friendship… I am grateful for that.

Steph brought a lot of laughs to my life.
She always said "I've been Countrified"! (Idaho)
Growing up, traveling to Idaho, visits in Utah, BBQ’s
Lava Family Reunions, Facebook, text messages…etc…
Steph had a secret little crush on Braxton-
she made him promise that when he turned 18,
he would go on a date with her.
He told me last night that he was on facebook a few nights ago
and that she popped on the instant messaging to remind him that they
only had 2 1/2 years until they could hit the town!
He loved being flirted with by her.

Braxton & Steph dancing at my wedding

To my family & friends that has never met my Best Friend Nina-
Her 29 year old sister Stephanie passed away on March 20th
Due to an automobile accident.
Steph was married to a really great guy that TRULY loved her.
Together they shared Kodi Paige (5yrs)
Stephanie was a fantastic stepmom to Kaila & Taci
She was a vegetarian, loved animals, the color pink and her Patriots.
She will be missed by so many.

Nina I love you so much. I am so so sorry that you are going through
such a horrible time right now. I will always be here for you.

Rest in Peace my Friend- I Love You

Dear Kenny...

California was fun but it left me aching for a “major” road trip.
I want to go to Oregon (for like a whole week)
I want to see some family I have not seen in…..too long!
May would be great; I could attend my cousins wedding
and see my Aunty for her Birthday. xoxo
But June would be better- kids are out of school;
We could play on the beach, look for sea treasures
and swim in the Ocean! The kids would have a blast.
HOWEVER…
What I REALLY want…Really Really Really…Want
is to go see Kenny Chesney in Las Vegas!!!
The shows - May 14th & 15th -AND- July 2nd & 3rd.
Kenny Chesney,
The man who's used to rocking close to 60,000 people,
the chance to be in a venue where the farthest seat
from the stage is merely 155 feet away…Oh Boy!!!

On another note- my great nephew is going
to make his grand appearance in the next few weeks,
Can’t… wait…! I am so happy for you Chris & Candis. xoxo

I don’t see why I wouldn’t be able to go see Kenny,
The tickets are a little spendy…yes…but I know that
Grandpa Al & Grandma Gloria would let Justin & I stay with them.
Hmmmmm…

Mom & Dad moved in with me part time.
They are going to stay at my place every other week.
This works…they seem to do ok.
I like coming home to mother,
I think that this is a good arrangement!
Uncle Carl, Aunt Sandy, Carol...etc...
please feel free to call anytime.

Oregon…Vegas…Oregon…Vegas…Both!
I am so going to see Kenny!

Psttt, Sissy…Justin & I have a 2 year anniversary in May!
You should direct him here…

California

Mom, Sherry, Brooklynn, Hunter & I
took a Road Trip to California to see Aunt Birdie. (mom’s sis)

Arriving in California… our 1st stop was Napa,
(where I was born)
we took a drive to see grandma’s old house,
went to Napa Memorial to visit the grandparents & other loved ones.
I have never been there so it was really nice to visit and pay my respects.
XOXOXO
It was kind of fun to see the cute little town as an adult
that I spent time in as a child. I am positive many things
have changed but I still enjoyed being there!

San Leandro-
We had a great visit with family.
I have not been to Aunty’s since I was a little girl-
everything looked just the way I remembered it though!
While at my Aunt Birdies
I found a picture of my Mom, Grandpa & Aunty Mel
in Hawaii from 1988.
I LOVE LOVE this picture so I thought I would share it!

Long Story Short….
Love to travel, loud music, loud singing, CrAzY wheather,
Jack in the Box, Donner’s Pass, they call this the Hilton?,
good visits with family, not enough pictures,
thank goodness for Blackberry Map Quest!,
more Jack in the Box, compacted crazy dirty little/big town,
got lost in San Leandro/Oakland…Scary!, swimming, Ibuprofen,
to much Jack in the Box, 30 minutes in Wendover,
and finally…Home. I missed my family, even if it was only 3 days.
Fast trip…but well worth it.

Headed to Oregon in June!
